I am so over it
Seriously, I am so over being pregnant. Im hot, irritable, I can’t sleep at night; therefore, I exhausted during the day and every afternoon our daughter loves to lodge a little hand or foot into my left ribs. In the last four weeks I have had four doctors appointments and this week’s will make five. Now don’t get me wrong, this is the most wonderful blessing we have ever received but give me a break. I am 24 weeks and 4 days and the countdown is not going quick enough. I think it’s nerves that have the best of me. We had to see a specialist regarding white tissue, referred to as an EIF, on her heart. Fortunately, the doctor was able to rule out any heart defects or chromosomal abnormalities; however, they did realize my cervix is short. I had to go back two more times for cervical lengthening and after decreasing my work hours and spending all of my free time in bed with my feet up everything is fine. So why another appointment? Well my obgyn wants me to be more active to find out the stressors that caused my cervical length to decrease to begin with. Augh! I feel like a lab rat. Is there anyone else out there whose little one has caused so much joy and fear without having seen the light of day?

Ouch
This weekend I took a short road trip to visit my husband’s job site. It wasn’t a far drive and I enjoyed myself. Sunday evening on the ride back home my tail bone began to hurt. I wasn’t too concerned with this being my tail bone has hurt on and off throughout my pregnancy. This time it hurt a lot more and a lot longer than it has before. Sunday night I was not able to sit at all or lay on my back and the pain lasted all of Monday. Today, I’m still in pain, but not as much. I read that this is a common symptom of women as their pregnancy progresses. I must say this is the most painful and uncomfortable thing I have experienced so far. An article mentioned that a donut cushion could help alleviate some of the pressure.

Too much or not enough
“Wow, you don’t look like your four and a half months pregnant. You just look like you ate a big meal”, “You’re only four and a half months? You look like you’re farther along than that.” or “No, you don’t look like you’re to big or too small, you look perfect. It’s just because you’re so small.” Hearing all of these comments on almost a daily basis can be somewhat worrisome for a first time mother. Am I gaining too much or not enough. According to my doctor I’m not underweight or overweight and have nothing to worry about. Hmmmm so why all the different opinions? I’ll have to take them for what they are “opinions” and not let myself get caught up in them.

Spring Fit Kick (not for me this year)
It seems like every baby book I read mentions exercising regularly after the fourth month. Perfect timing for all of those gym buffs getting their summer bodies ready. Come July I’ll be ready to pop. That can be a bit of a downer. At least I can benefit from all the sales for exercise equipment. I am definitely considering an elliptical and maybe some other equipment. Just the other day I heard Oprah talking with Valerie Bertinelli about a weighted vest she used to help her lose weight. Hmmm. I’m not really one for lifting weights; so, this may be perfect for me post pregnancy. I’m not too concerned about keeping my frame during pregnancy, but I don’t see anything wrong with planning an exercise routine or two once your little one is born.

Boy or Girl
For the better part of my pregnancy, I thought it would be great to have a little girl. Someone who her father and I could smother with hugs and kisses and repeat old nursery rhymes with. Then yesterday that all changed. I awoke from my nap after church with this overwhelming desire to have a little boy. A boy who would want to follow his daddy around and have his hair cut like him. How adorable is that? It is kind of strange though, how I just totally flipped like that. Bam. We’ll find out soon enough. Our “anatomy ultrasound” is in 9 days.

Baby love
This morning I was talking with my husband and learned something very interesting. He thinks about the baby just as much as I do if not more. I had figured that guys just kind think about their pregnant wives when they have to go run an errand or something like that, but that is not the case. My husband thinks about the baby in the morning when he wakes up, during the day or night at work, just about all day everyday. Wow. That’s kind of nice. It’s not that I thought he didn’t care, I just thought that women really only thought like that. You learn a little something new everyday.

Swollen Feet
Last night as I was preparing to go to bed I looked down and noticed some marks around my ankles. I sat on the bed to take a closer look and realized it was sock marks! The cuffs of my socks left marks around my ankles, oh my. I was shocked to see this. I did not think your feet began swelling until much later in your pregnancy. I suppose I’ll start elevating my feet more while I’m at my desk and when I’m at home.

Stroller shopping Round 2
Several months ago, my husband and I went stroller shopping. We found the Maxi-Cosi Perle Stroller and instantly fell in love with it. He loved the padding and design and found it easy for him to maneuver and set up. We were set to go . . . or so we thought. Just recently I went online to check the stroller and car seat out at Babies R Us and read any reviews. I had initially done this when we first decided on the stroller and found most reviews were positive; however, that was not the case yesterday. I found several negative reviews. From what I gather, the stroller has a major problem with the wheels sticking and it can be difficult to detach the car seat. I know this stroller is new to the market, so I decided to go online to see what else I could find out about it. Fat chance at that. There was very little I could find out so I decided to check out other strollers. A co-worker of mine recently had a baby and she purchased a Chicco stroller. I checked out the Cortina Travel System out and it won me over. There were many positive reviews and Chicco seems to have a longer history in the US than the Maxi-Cosi.

Spanx
This afternoon a co-worker noticed my baby bump as we were passing one another in the break room. I was telling her how I was reading about the benefits of maternity supports and am considering purchasing one in the next few months. She mentioned this website spanx.com. She went on to described how she had seen it on Oprah and was impressed. I checked out the website myself and was equally impressed. Spanx was created by Sara Blakely when she cut the feet of her panty hose to wear with a pair of pants. I read over a couple of testimonials regarding the “Mama Spanx”, a pantyhose for pregnant women, and I’m convinced I’ll be ordering a pair for myself. It seems as though the Mama Spanx offers an alternative to the tradition maternity supports which can be uncomfortable.

Am I becoming lazy . . .
This weekend I had the hardest time getting out of bed. I eventually accomplished everything on my list of things to do; however, it took all weekend long. Seriously, I can’t remember a day in my life that I wanted to stay in bed all day when feeling perfectly fine. Maybe my body just needed a little rest. I should have bought a hammock and slept in the sun. We had another gorgeous weekend with the temperature in the mid-sixties to seventies. I better soak up as much sun as I can before the heat comes in the next few months.
