The Fall Heard ‘Round the Office

Earlier this morning I was attempting to step away from my desk when my foot caught something. I have yet to figure out exactly what happened, but all I know is I fell and I fell hard. I frantically tried to grab everything near me but my efforts were in vain. Fortunately, I crashed into the cubicle wall and came to a sudden stop. Two of my co-workers not only heard but witnessed everything and leapt to my rescue but it was too late. I feel terrible. The looks of horror that spread across their faces was more than enough evidence of their concern for our well being. I’m not sure how harmful a fall could be at four months pregnant; however, I am still shaken up by the ordeal.

Screening Tests

16 weeks down . . . 24 weeks to go. Whew! Can you believe it?! Time has slowed a bit and I’m not feeling as anxious anymore. It’s amazing at how much the baby has grown in two weeks. Pretty soon, well be heading to the doctor for screening tests. This is not something I’m particularly excited about, but I’m find it to be a necessity. I recently read an article at pregnancy.edmedtv.com regarding these tests and it did provide quite a bit of insight and was somewhat comforting. Nevertheless, until the results are in I can guarantee my mind will start a wonderin’.

Fatherhood

My husband is so cute. He is totally mesmerized by my growing belly almost to the point of being giddy. It’s really cute. He is reading The Everything Father-To-Be Book. It is a “survival guide” for men and helps them deal with their everyday responsibilities on top of becoming a father. The book has really helped my husband understand how pregnancy effects us mentally, emotionally, and physically. He explained to me how this book puts everything into a perspective from which guys are able to grasp an actual concept of what their wives are going through. I’m really impressed and thankful for such a book. He also has some great friends with children who provide a great deal of good advice.

I Got the Blues . . .

The allergy blues that is. This weekend was absolutely beautiful. Temperatures were in the mid-seventies to low eighties. It was gorgeous. Unfortunately, there was a bit of a dark cloud hanging over me. I have severe allergies and this weekend they were in full effect. Everywhere we went I was sure to bring along kleenex, napkins, or paper towels. Lovely. Hopefully our little one doesn’t suffer allergies like I do. I could not bear seeing him or her suffering from the itchy, watery eyes, congestion, or scratchy throat. I love the outdoors and I have plenty of plans to spend time outside playing and enjoying the sun. Fortunately, I don’t have to suffer completely. My physician suggested I use some sort of saline spray or a humidifier to relieve some of the dryness.

Stretch

Stretching during pregnancy enhances flexibility, prevents muscles from tightening, and makes you feel more relaxed. Stretching after exercising not only cools you down, but it also makes you feel looser. There are many benefits to exercising and stretching during pregnancy for example; if you continue exercising during pregnancy it is less difficult to return to your pre pregnancy weight. Don’t let the myths of exercising during pregnancy stop you from being active and healthy. As always, it is best to consult with you physician regarding your a pre-natal exercise regimen.

Taking notice

The last several days at work my co-workers have begun noticing my baby bump. The funniest comment I heard was Monday from my co-worker/friend. I was sitting in my chair in a sideways position when she said “Dang where did that come from?!” It was so funny. I caught her off guard and she caught me off guard. In all honesty it made me feel really good. As the week has progressed more and more people are starting to take notice to my changing shape. I definitely did this morning when I was driving to work. I got a cramp in my left lower rib area. When I went to rub it, I noticed my belly is much, much larger . How neat. This is really happening.

Researchers Prove What We Already Know

A day late, but not a buck short. This morning I read something pretty interesting on CNN.com. As it turns out science is now on our side proving to all of those in doubt that pregnant women do experience slight memory loss. HA! As if we didn’t know this. Last week I was totally convinced that my husband picked up the mail and had a form I needed to fax. I was livid when he told me know he did not, I did. I blew it off as him just being too lazy to look and went off the deep end. I later had to apologize when I found the form in my bag. So how do we overcome this temporary forgetfulness while we continue multitasking as wives and mothers? Well I wish I had an answer; however, I do not. Forgetfulness could last for at least another twelve months or longer. I guess I will keep this notebook handy for a little while longer.

Why Do I Have So Much Gas

So I am becoming more and more aware of the quirky changes to our bodies once we become pregnant. But yesterday day was the quirkiest of all. I . . . um . . . well . . . I had the worst gas that I have ever experienced in my entire life. I mean it was like non-stop. So I did a quick search to figure out what the heck it going. What causes so much gas in pregnant women? Well, as it so happens pregnancy slows digestion leading to more fermentation resulting in gas. In fact, anything that slows down bowel function can lead to additional gas, including constipation. Oh no . . . I am in my second trimester and it is now that I am suppose to experience gas and constipation. With little gas relief in sight I would like to take a moment to warn the world that I am flatulent and there is absolutely nothing I can do about it.

Let the Good Times Roll

These last few weeks I have been feeling absolutely wonderful. After a very long first trimester filled with nausea, fatigue, and just plain grumpiness, I am officially back to my old jovial self. In fact, I think I might be a little happier than I was before we got pregnant. Wow can you believe that?! I’m sure my husband is more happy with this change in behavior than I am. (I was really grumpy when it came to him) Seriously, I feel bad for the guy. I was an absolute monster. Everything he did just irritated me in the worst of ways. Usually, I am very easy going and have a good sense of humor; however, that quickly disappeared once I began feeling sick. One day we were at his parents house and I kept hitting my bottom on the door when I went to bend over to play with our nephew. I turned to my husband and jokingly said, “I feel like I need to tape wide load on my backside”. Laughing he responded, “So you do too?”. Wrong words to say. I shot him a look of death and walked away. Yikes! That man needs some sort of meddle for putting up with me.
